Search Engines and SEO
--
It is the practice of getting relevant traffic to a website from various search engines’ rankings. Also, we can say that SEO is all about increasing your website’s ranking in the organic section of the search results.
How do search engines like google work?
When someone searches for something on Google, PageRank algorithm works to bring out what that particular search engine considers the best result. If I would emphasize the working process then search engines like Google specifically scan the index off hundreds of billions of pages that will best answer your search.
How does Google determine the ‘best’ result?
Although Google doesn’t make the working of the algorithm public, based on various sources and documents, we came to know that website rankings are based on:
Relevancy: This means that how much relevant your content is for the user. If the content is relevant then it is easier for you to rank your content in the search results. For example, if you are searching for “best Italian restaurants in New York”, you don’t want to see results about cooking recipes. This is the reason search engines like Google takes this aspect as the first and foremost factor to scan your webpage.
Authority This is the way of deciding whether particular content is useful or not. So now a question can arise that how a search engine would decide it? They look at the number of pages that linked your blog to them which is the concept of backlinks. So in 1 line, we can say the ranking is directly proportional to the number of backlinks.
Usefulness: This means if your content is not useful to the user then Google will never rank your content in the search results. Google publicly revealed this aspect that there is a difference between ‘high quality content’ and ‘useful content’.
